日本の漫才師、映画監督、俳優。1980年代初頭に起こった漫才ブームで、漫才コンビ・ツービートとして活躍した。社会風刺を題材としたシニカルな笑いで人気を獲得し、テレビ番組『THE MANZAI』『オレたちひょうきん族』などに出演し、それらも大ヒットした。1980年代後半からは俳優として映画やテレビドラマにも出演し、1990年代からは映画監督としても活動している。1989年の『その男、凶暴につき』で映画監督デビューし、『ソナチネ』（1993年）では世界的に高い評価を得た。1997年の『HANA-BI』ではベネチア国際映画祭金獅子賞を受賞した。2010年にフランス芸術文化勲章コマンドゥール、2016年にレジオン・ドヌール勲章オフィシエ、2018年に旭日小綬章を受章。
日本の現代美術作家。京都造形芸術大学教授。同大学内のウルトラファクトリーのディレクターを務める。
大阪府茨木市出身。大阪府立春日丘高等学校を経て、1989年京都市立芸術大学美術学部彫刻専攻卒業。英国ロイヤル・カレッジ・オブ・アートに短期留学。1991年京都市立芸術大学大学院美術研究科修了。1994年から3年間ベルリンに活動拠点を置き、現在は大阪府高槻市在住。
瀬戸内海の島々を舞台に開催される現代美術の国際芸術祭である。略称は「瀬戸芸（せとげい）」。対象地区が岡山・香川の両県に跨る、一大イベントである。トリエンナーレ形式で、第1回の2010年から3年ごとに開催されている。2022年は、第5回目の開催年である。
The eight islands of Japan sprang into existence through Divine Intervention.The first two gods who came into existence were Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto, the Exalted Male and Exalted Female. It was their job to make the land for people to live on.They went to the bridge between heaven and earth and, using a jewel-encrusted halberd, Izanagi and Izanami churned up the sea into a frothy foam. As salty drips of water fell from the tip of the halberd the first island was formed. Its name was Onogoro.So far, so good. But when Izanagi and Izanami first met on their island, Izanami spoke to Isanagi without being spoken to first. Since she was the female, and this was improper, their first union created badly-formed offspring who were sent off into the sea in boats.The next time they met, Izanagi was sure to speak first, ensuring the proper rules were followed, and this time they produced eight children, which became the islands of Japan.I'm sure you did not fail to miss the significance of this myth for the establishment of Japanese formal society.At present, Japan is the financial capital of Asia.
